Heathfield Friendly Society, Crown Hotel
« on: Sunday 08 January 17 20:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi Sussex Rootschatters,

One of my ancestors, a Heathfield resident, died in 1913 and in his obituary it's stated that "He was one of the earliest members of the old Heathfield Friendly Society in connection with the Crown Hotel."

There's nothing more on this aspect of his life, so I wonder if some of you can provide me with any general background information about the society and its connection to the Crown Hotel. Google has rather let me down, I'm afraid.

Thanks in anticipation,
Stovepipe

If you look at the building on the right you'll see the word "insurance", I'm guessing this is the Friendly Society.  (If the pic hasn't come through or you want a hi res copy let me know).

Many thanks, sussexpellett - that's a great old photo of the Crown Hotel, Heathfield, and the connection to insurance of the building next door is interesting.
Do you know when the picture was taken?
