Hi everyone,

After reading your replies, I found a baptism for George Costar in 1799, son of George and Mary. I then found their marriage and it was indeed George Costar and Mary Wichelow. After many years of searching, and maybe with some more records digitised, I think this is probably my George, as the christening year varies from the birth year on the census only by a couple of years, and I haven't found anything else that's a closer match.

In a place called Nettlebed, which I think is about 7 miles from Benson, where there are loads of Costars!! Two children were baptised in Nettlebed and the other two in Benson.

You obviously have Coster ancestors - which branch are you descended from?

None from Oxfordshire.
 
The one Coster that I have, is a leaf on twig in my tree. Hannah Coster c1801. Ford, Buckinghamshire.  I haven't gone any further for that reason.

But I did some research for a friend for Costers in Oxfordshire, many years ago, and the name stuck in my memory, because of the variations of the name.  I think they were from Chalgrove.
