manawakian it just doesnt make sense why John Cappell would say that he was born in Canada and his father in England and mother in Ireland if they were from Kentucky...seems way off to me. Also, like I mentioned in my previous response - the informant could have been wrong about John's fathers name, just like the informant for Eliza's death was wrong about her fathers name.

Today, I spoke with my grandfather's cousin's wife (John Cappell's son - Emerick Foster's son - Thomas Emerick's wife), she is 80 years old and she said that she thinks that John Cappell may have been from Quebec. She said Emerick Foster and his wife Jane took a trip to Quebec. We weren't able to talk long because she is sick.

I need help further researching the John Cappell that was found in the 1871 Canadian census (Familysearch) -
John Cappell 22 Birthplace Q
Nationality Scotch Event Place 03, South Dumfries a, North Brant 16, Ontario
Page # 45 House # 159 Affiliate Film# C-9915

Any guidance would be great! Thanks in advance

Any Canadians out there that can help guide me to the right places to search for John Cappell born in Canada (Eng) June 13, 1849?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Any newspapers or online sites? I don't want to subscribe to a million sites that have the same information, but if someone knows of a site that they think would be helpful, I am willing to give it a try.

Civil registration for births began in Ontario from July 1, 1869.The Archives of Ontario holds records of births from 1869 to 1914, marriages from 1869 to 1929, and deaths from 1869 to 1939.
Prior to this check the parish registers for the Churches in the areas where their families lived/worked - although this will be difficult because you have no idea where  ???  Same problem with newspapers - where would you start looking  ???

Historical Canadian Newspapers Online: Ontario (other choices available)

Sandra what do you recommend I do? I don't know how to go about locating him prior to 1880.
