Buried twice?
« on: Thursday 12 January 17 16:02 GMT (UK) »
What can have happened here?  A young child apparently buried in January, then reinterred 18 months later?  Did she come back to life?  (note the entry is in sequence with the earlier date).  Maybe, like Kosher Bailey, someone heard some knockin' ....

The most likely answer is someone has viewed the register later and added "a correction" that was not an uncommon occurence.

Whether the correction is accurate or not we cannot tell so many years later unless either another copy of the register exists (such as a Bishop's Transcript) or the lair register (grave register) exists.
or even a note in the parish chest etc.

Am I reading this wrong? (Probably!)

The first Margaret is 7 months old and the second one is the wife of George Tinker?

Ah! I expect you are referring to the scribble on Catherine's record!

Ignore me (most people do!)

The Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website shows the following -

    Age: 7 years & 5 months
    Abode: Manchester
    Cause of Death: worm fever
Notes: [A burial date Jan 29 1784 was written in line with this entry, crossed out and
replaced by Aug 25 1785 See entry of Randle Holland buried 25th August 1785]
    Register: Burials 1741 - 1812, Page 20, Entry 6
