Looking for information on Robert Brown born c1772 at Hull

I am helping a distant relative from Australia research his Family Ancestry.

What I know.

Robert Brown married Sarah Simpkin (of Chelsea) on 22 August 1796, at St Margaret, Westminster, Middlesex.  I have found both in 1841 and 1851 living in Lambeth Surrey.  Census detail can be found at

1851 HO 107 Piece 1572 Folio 69 Page 30
In both returns Robert Brown was described as an Engineer.  In 1851 he was stated to have been born in Hull, Yorkshire aged 79.
With this I have found a baptism for a Robert Brown on 24 June 1772 at Holy Trinity, Hull, as found on Family Search.  Unfortunately no mother’s name is given.  There are two possible brothers also baptised at Holy Trinity, John (17/2/74) and Thomas (3/11/75) beyond that I am at a loss.

Can anyone help me with Robert’s mother’s name and any possible marriage between her and Robert Brown, senior.

For information Robert and Sarah Brown had (at least) one daughter Jane Wilber Brown born 1810 at Southwark, Surrey who died in 1894, in Victoria, Australia.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tony,
Robert Brown, Whitesmith, of Holy Trinity marr Mary Wilbore of Gt Grimsby on the 27 May 1771 at St James Grimsby.
Found the bapt of the three boys all to a Robert Brown but no mothers name given, which was the norm at this time, The next Brown bapt is in 1786 to a Robert but i didnot give you this as another Robert Brown & Mary married c 1785 in Holy Trinity.  Possibly moved to have children in Grimsby in wife's Parish?
