Printer doesn't like ink cartridge
« on: Friday 13 January 17 15:28 GMT (UK) »
My Epson printer tells me my Epson ink cartridge which I installed only recently is incompatible and I need to install a new one.  This is very annoying as I paid good money for the real thing. Maybe the printer is getting old but I have noticed that ink doesn't last very long.
Any ideas? I have tried taking the cartridge in question out and reinstalling it.
Thanks

Hi Primrose

Are you sure you've got the correct cartridge?  What model is your printer?

I've had many Epson printers and they've only played up with one particular brand of compatibles and that was ages ago  :-\

Yes I have been using this printer for a number of years. I have used compatibles which have worked and some that haven't so I have gone back to genuine Epson.
The printer is Stylus S21. Monkey ink. (Or baboon actually! )

Well, it's definitely the correct cartridge for that printer (just done a double check).

You say that you've recently installed it - have you been able to use it at all or did the message come up as soon as you tried to use it?

If it's not been used to print, I'd check if all the bits of packaging are off. The only other thing that I can think of is to put it through a cleaning routine or other maintenance routine such as alignment and see if that works  :-\

Some years ago I purchased some original inks which were not recognized at all, I simply returned the faulty carts for an immediate exchange.
It turned out that the inks were old stock, the chip had not been updated to work with my model of Epson.

Very helpful, thank you. I will try the reinstall then if it doesn't work, return the cartridge to where I bought it from. Unfortunately that was online as I couldn't find the cartridge for sale locally.

Suggest as you purchased online: Make contact with supplier first to confirm you are unhappy with your purchase, reasons why!
As the goods can be very messy, wrap the ink cartridge in plastic wrapper prior to posting.

Depending on original cost, dump in the bin and buy a replacement from your local supermarket!
I use Asxx Wilxx or even Tesxx ;)

How true it is, I don't know, but I heard some considerable time ago that genuine replacement cartridges for Epson Printers are "region specific" - presumably to stop people importing cheaper cartridges from far away places.

If say you have a printer sold on the British market and try to use a cartridge from foreign parts  you're likely to experience the problem you're having. You may well have ended up with a 'grey' import and its certainly worth querying this with whoever you bought it from.
