I am curious as to why people are interested in David and Emma Carey, as they are my great grandparents. Any information would be great. I am new to family searches,

Hello Mary

I am doing some research for a cousin of mine who also is a great grand child of David and Emma through their daughter Elizabeth.

The only things that I have found out about them is what is in this posting.

Emma's parents I believe we're William and Sarah, there is a marriage in Lambeth in 1840 between William Duffin and Sarah Elizabeth Jane Blakesley. In the 1871 and 1861 Sarah's place of birth is Salisbury, Wiltshire but in the 1851 census her place of birth is shown as Shrewsbury.

Henry joined the army in 1901 aged 19, he was in the Middlesex Regiment, and served in Singapore where he married my grandmother Maud Reid in 1900. I believe he was a colour sergeant then. The had a child Vida in Singapore, and another in 1912 (Henry Sidney known as Sid) when in India. He was @ that time in the 3rd battalion. In 1914 he was in England in Devonport Plymouth where my Mum Connie was born. He became a Company Quartermaster Sergeant and was then in the 4th battalion when the war started. His battalion departed Devonport for Boulogne in August 1914. Henry was in a number of battles including the First Battle of Ypres, Passendaelle and the Somme. My Mum's last memory of him is waving goodbye to him as he boarded the train to return to the war in 1917, by then he had 4 children and one on the way. Henry was killed in action on 22/12/1917. After grandma remarried all photo's & memerobilia were disposed of , so sadly there are no photo's or his medals, though my cousin in Australia has got copies of his medals. That's a pocket history, I'll be happy to try and answer any questions. Mary

Sorry Buzz, typo alert he married Maud in 1909 not 1900

Also I've just had a look @ Ancestry, my brother has done a lot of work on the family tree and the Duffin tree stretches back further. you could look there to find out more Buzz

Thank you Mary for all the information on Henry he certainly was a career soldier.

As I said before my cousin is descended from Henry's younger sister Elizabeth who married Edward Bellman in 1913 they had three children Edward 1913 Reginald 1923 and Lilian 1928. Edward senior died in 1940, but Elizabeth lived until the age of 97.

I will have to go on Ancestry and look for the tree your brother has done, is that under the Carey or Duffin name or something else.

As I stated at the beginning of this posting David Carey is first found in the 1851 census with his siblings and parents Peter and Mary who were both born in Dublin, I did find a marriage between a Peter Carey and Mary Mariarty 5/9/1830 at St Clement Danes Westminster but I'm not sure if this is the correct couple.
