American Family
« on: Friday 13 January 17 22:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi, not exactly genealogy but a friend is trying to trace his father, his father was born in 1940 in the UK, he moved to America (about 35 years ago) i'm trying to help him trace his father but am struggling a little and would greatly appreciate any advice.

Many thanks

Jason

Is his father living, deceased, or is it unknown if he is still alive?

The U.S. Public Record Indexes, which are available on Ancestry.com and here - https://familysearch.org/search/collection/2199956, are helpful for finding a more recent address.  Keep in mind that the records aren't 100% accurate time-wise, as sometimes people keep getting mail at an address when they have moved or have passed away.

If you can narrow him down to a specific location, sometimes you can find online newspaper archives for that area or an obituary index if appropriate.

The social security death index is a good source as many entries give the date of birth.
