Amelia Sphia Wilson nee Rainer/Raynor & Thomas George Gillett
« on: Saturday 14 January 17 13:13 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Thomas George Gillett, he married Amelia Sophia (1860-1935) as her 3rd husband in 1907 in Shoreditch, in the 1911 census she is described as a widow, I have been unable to locate a death for him or even details relating to his birth. Any help would be appreciated
Thank you

What does the 1907 marriage record say about his age, occupation and father?

He may still have been alive in 1911, despite his wife claiming widowhood.

Hi
Did he also marry Mary Ann Brown in 1906? If so his marriage certificate gives father as Thomas Gillett ...publican.
Thomas was  24 and a Barman.
There is a family that looks right on the 1891 census, transcribed as Gellett on FindMyPast with a Thomas Gillett and family living at the Caledoian Arms,Fairfield Road, Bow, Poplar.

If the Thomas who married Mary Ann in 1906 was only 24, it would be unexpected to find him marrying 47 yr old Amelia the following year.

But nothing is impossible, I suppose! The 1907 marriage doesn't seem to have taken place in a C of E parish.

The Thomas who married Mary seems likely to have been born in January 1883 and can be found with Mary and their son later on, so if he did "marry" Amelia in 1907 it was both bigamous and short-lived.

That 1907 marriage cert is definitely required :)

Amelia Sophia Rainer is my gt. grandmother.  She married James Pain in 1883  (he died in 1899) she then married Arthur Wilson in 1900 (he died in 1904), then 1907 marriage to Thomas George Gillet (my grandparents were the witnesses).
The second and third marriages were in Register Offices ; Woolwich 1900 and Shoreditch 1907.

1907 marriage: Thomas 32, father William (deceased carpenter) and Amelia as 43.....hmm she was a bit older than that as I have her birth cert.  She was older than all her husbands!    ;)

I have traced Thomas back to his birth in 1876 in Yorkshire.

Amelia died as Mrs. Wilson (I have the cert.) and my father only knew her as Granny Wilson even though his own parents were witnesses.   ;D

I suspect that could be him but have not bought the cert..........yet!

1917 has a TG Gillett marrying a LE Haines at St. Mary Newington and details of the groom's father/occupation match those on the 1907 certificate.

I suspect a parting and a bigamous marriage..........
