Etherington and Paddock in Hawkley - how do they all relate?
« on: Sunday 15 January 17 13:12 GMT (UK) »
Just found that my great x6 grandfather was Edmund Etherington b1743 in Steep. He married Mary Paddock or Parwick in 1763. He then had a mistress, who was Hannah Cosins/Paddock/parwick. She bore 2 children - Eli 1789-1789 and Mary 1787. I am descended through Mary.

I have found a possible birth for Hannah Cosins/Paddock/Parwick. In 1776 - Parents Henry Coisins and Hannah Paddock.

I have also found a William Cosens marry a Sarah Padwick in 1774 in Hawkley

All of these events all happened in Hawkley. I just wish i knew how all the paddocks/Padwicks are related. And could Hannah really have been only 11 when she had her first child by a 33 year old man?

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Hi

I've only had a quick look but do you think its possible that EDMUND ETHERINGTON ( father of Eli and Mary) is the son of EDMUND and MARY, and had the children with Hannah without them being married.

Edmund and Mary had quite a few children ~ including an Eli bn 1780 and Mary bn 1765 and 1768.

EDMUND son of Edmund and Mary baptized 27 January 1772.

Just thoughts.

I think you are correct with your assumptions.

Hannah PADDOCK/PADWICK was older than you think and was possibly MARY ETHRINGTON nee PADDOCKs SISTER.

Hannah PADDOCK had quite a few baseborn children in Hawkley

Hannah bn 1776 daughter of Henry Cosins

Elizabeth bn 1778 daughter of Hannah Paddock and James Hoare

Thomas bn 1771 son of Hannah Paddock and Thomas Sutton.

Possible

William PADWICK son of Hannah born 1784

You need to find Mary's baptism and see if she had a sister Hannah.

Just to add that Edmund and Mary's daughter Maria bap. 1778 also had illegitimate son William Etherington in 1910. Father was William Fisher.
