SYDLING ST. NICHOLAS
« on: Sunday 15 January 17 15:47 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if any one has the following book to hand and so could clarify something.
Sydling St. Nicholas. Glimpses of its History. Edt. by Sheila Phillips 1993.
p16 states, " It is recorded in 1848 that a singular custom prevailed in S.St. N. whereby farmers met every Sunday after srvice to hear any complaints that might be made by the labourers."
I have understood this was done under a prominent tree in the village centre. Does the book actually say that ? Many thanks for any help. Toby.

Just a thought but perhaps you could contact the nearest library and ask A) if tthey have the book and could look it up for you or B) if they can verify the act which you quoted. You never know - you could be lucky.
