Internet link just hanging and won't connect

Hi, my PC is connected to the internet but I can't load any internet pages - it just remains hanging.

Windows 8.1 and IE11 - this combination has worked perfectly well up till now.

It has done this for the last couple of weeks and I have managed to overcome by going back to a restore point but I can't keep doing this.

Any ideas of anything I can try please that is not tootehnical?

Try = in sequence . . . . .
Turn OFF pc.
Turn OFF ALL other internet-connected kit.         
Turn OFF router.
[ Make a cup of tea, drink ]
Turn ON Router
Turn ON ALL other internet-connected kit.
Turn ON pc.

Thanks Ray.  Have tried all of that on more than one occasion and no joy.

I can return to a normal working process simply by using the latest restore point each day but it only lasts a day if I am lucky - sometimes drops off towards the end of the day but definitely gone after switching off overnight.

Is it just your PC, Pheno, you have anything else connected to the internet, does that work okay? Are you connected by Ethernet cable or WiFi?

Can be quite a common problem - Had this problem this morning, switched off, disconnected the modem, waited 5 minutes and restarted - success.  Hope your as lucky.

Hi Groom, yes just my tower pc.  Wi-fi connection as is my husband's laptop and he is having no problem and neither is our TV which is all connected.

Its not a case of not picking up the wi-fi connection as network status shows no problem and I have a good wi-fi signal.  When I open up IE11 it tries to connect but just can't either make or hold the connection.  Not just one site but all.

The odd thing is that if I go back to a restore point of even the previous day (on which I had similar problems) then it works ok.

Have you tried using a different browser to see if that makes any difference?

have a gander at your Events 'Log' - might show exactly what changes ....

No I haven't yet so maybe that's the way to go and see what happens.

Will continue with IE today whilst its working and then switch later tonight or tomorrow when IE has had enough.
