Ludgershall parish registers
« on: Wednesday 18 January 17 18:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Is anyone going to Aylesbury RO?
I'm looking for a kind person who might check a marriage for me:
a William Gregory married Mary Twitchin on 8 Dec 1814 in Ludgershall.
I'd love to know whether William was by any chance a widower...
Many thanks,
pwhhh

There is a Lugershall in Buckinghamshire, its in the Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire, near the border with Oxfordshire. It even has a web page.

Added, he would only have been 24, what makes you consider he could possibly be a widow.

Unless you can get to the London LDS Family History Centre at Kew (otherwise its £7.50 to hire the film into another LDS Family History Centre), probably cheaper to get a search done from Buckinghamshire Family History Society.  I believe they have transcribed all the marriages for the county until at least 1837 - see http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/index.php/database-searches.  The search results should include that information, it normally does.

Thanks for the input, all of you.
Yes, I think I will try the FHS.
If he was 24, unlikely to be a widower, agreed, but I haven't found an age for him.

Possible baptism, Lugershall for William Gregory
14 February 1790 son of George and Mary Gregory.

Mary Twitchen baptized 3 November 1793 daughter of William Twitchen and Ann nee Leaver.

1841 census Lugershall,  William is listed as 50 a shoemaker, Mary is 47,
children still at home
George 21, William 16, Mary 13, Charlotte 7.
There is a child John age 3 but he is the illegitimate son of daughter Ann born 1815 the eldest of William and Mary' children.

Thanks to all of you for your help.
I'd wondered whether the two Williams might be the same, so might have to resort to checking signatures.
Thanks all.
