Dillon Jewellers Waterford
« on: Thursday 19 January 17 11:56 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone could help me with confirming some information about Dillon Jewellers.

Up in St Patrick's Graveyard  there is a Jonathan Dillon who died in September 1846 aged 67and is described as a watchmaker in the burial records. From what I can gather, he may have had 3 sons all who followed their dad into the jeweller business.

The first seems to be Jonathan, who may have wrote a hidden message in Abe Lincoln's pocket watch.
The others seem to be Richard and Thomas who made Queen Victoria her Claddagh ring and Thomas later went to Galway in 1850.
Also I believe Jonathan Dillon's dad was a Goldsmith called Joseph Dillon and I noticed there is a Joseph Dillon buried here in St. Patrick's who died in October 1814 and I was wondering if it could be Jonathan's Dad

The article confirms that Thomas and Richard are Jonathan's kids which is a big help and also very interesting and I'm 95% sure that Jonathan (of Lincoln's watch) is Jonathan's son. So now hopefully I can find when Joseph died.

I've read about Lincoln's watch, it is very interesting. Still looking for any info on Joseph in particular his death. The  A+H article mentions

Quote
Joseph Dillon's son John (aka Jonathan) was described as a
goldsmith in the deed covering the disposal of his father's dwelling house in Great
Barronstrand Street on 28 January 1809

which makes me wonder if Joseph was already dead by 1809, which would be disappointing for me since the Joseph Dillon in St Patrick's died in 1814
