Application for Freedom
« on: Thursday 19 January 17 20:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

Please forgive my ignorance I am looking for information on an application for the freedom of  the city of London. (I have a copy of the application)

The gentleman in question is Arthur Tyndall he was born on 21 Sept 1898 the date of his application was 31 Oct 1927 he was serving as a police sergeant at the time.

The question I am asking is why and any other info at the time.

Yours Aye

Originally you weren't allowed to trade within the City of London (as opposed to London!), without the Freedom.

See: https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/about-the-city/about-us/Pages/freedom-of-the-city.aspx

Was his Freedom granted "by redemption" - i.e. by paying certain fees?
Or was it granted "by patrimony" - by reason of his father being a Freeman?
