photograph in Cape Town for dating
« on: Saturday 21 January 17 03:06 GMT (UK) »
This may be an impossible task, but is it possible to work out the date of this photograph? It is about 15 x 12 cm on plain card. On the back is written in faint pencil "cottage ... Cape Town". I have attached enlargements of the men and carriage in the photograph if that helps at all.

Any suggestions most appreciated.

Looking at the car I would say 1890's - v. early 1900's.

The carriage seems very unusual in that the drivers seat is a long way forward of the front axle.

Thank you handypandy, that is a bit clearer.  :D

Thanks Jim. I thought it was a car, but my OH didn't think so. The family who the photograph belonged to lived in Cape Town around 1840-1860 before moving to Australia, now I just have to figure out why they would have this photo. Must have been given to them much later.

Will do a bit of research trying to find out what type of car it is.

Thank you all once again!
