Elizabeth Onions - need help!
« on: Saturday 21 January 17 16:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm looking for help in finding ELIZABETH ONIONS in census. This is what I know of her...
1) She was born in around 1848 in Birmingham (according to her birth dates in later censuses)
2) She married Charles Edward Roath in 1868 in Birmingham.
3) She appears in the 1871 census with her husband and family, living in Birmingham
4) She appears in the 1881 census as a widow, living with her children in Birmingham
5) She possibly died in 1906 in Birmingham. (Only record I could find of an Elizabeth Roath)

I can't find her in the 1891 or the 1901 censuses at all.

I also can't find her prior to her marriage in 1868. According to her marriage record, her father's name was SAMUEL ONIONS, a servant.

I did find an 1861 census that might be her but I'm not sure as the birthplace doesn't match. Details as follows...
Elizabeth Onions - 12 - Born in Dudley, Worcestershire (servant to the Body family)
Registration district - Dudley   Sub-registration district- Dudley    ED, institution, or vessel - 40
Household schedule number - 142  Piece- 2061   Folio -15  Page number -26

There is also an 1851 census that I was looking at as a possible for her...
Elizabeth Onions - 3 - Born in Birmingham (Lodger's daughter)
The lodger is listed as Pretilla Onions (widower aged 30)
Lodging with the Richards family. (James and Ann)
Registration district - Birmingham  Sub-registration district - Lady Wood   ED, institution, or vessel -10  Household schedule number - 147  Piece - 2051   Folio - 273   Page number - 36

Any support would be greatly appreciated.
Warwickshire, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Bridgnorth.

Have you considered that a marriage in Birmingham in 1889 is her?

I did consider that she may have re-married. I'll have to look into this further.

Hello
The 1851 is mistranscribed it is Priscilla onions Widow aged 30 born Birmingham.
I am trying to find a link between the Richards she is lodging with,James Richards born Monmouthshire and the John Richards she married as he was also born Monmouthshire.
On gro site Elizabeth onions born sept qtr 1847 mmn Hughes.
Priscilla Richards born march qtr 1853 mmn Hughes.
Seneca Richards born dec 1861 mmn Hughes
Albert 1865 also mothers maiden name Hughes
So the Priscilla Onions widow in 1851 appears to be Priscilla Hughes in reality yet i cant find a marriage between a Hughes and Onions
John Richards and Priscilla have grandaughter Elizabeth Routh staying with them in 1881.
