Alexander Miller of Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland
« on: Tuesday 24 January 17 22:54 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to determine the parentage of Alexander MILLER, b. c.1688 in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire.

Transcriptions seem to suggest that his father was Robert, but, while difficult to read, the record suggests J. MILLER (John?)https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Miller-41678. Witnesses to the birth were Alexander STARK and William BAIRD. I also assume that John Miller from Gateside was his brother as he was a witness for many of the children's births. Other witnesses include John AUCHIE, James RENNY, Robert & Alexander FREW, Henry URE, James LAING & William MOFFAT.

Alexander lived in Gateside and some records seem to suggest that he was a schoolmaster. He married Janet FREW, 02 Aug 1716. Children from this marriage include 1.) John Miller, 2.) Alexander Miller, 3.) Elspeth Miller, 4.) James Miller, 5.) Matthew Miller, 6.) Jean Miller, 7.) Robert Miller, and 8.) Peter Miller.

FWIW I think it the father's name is Robt.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
