Clockmaker, Waterford or Lismore area
« on: Tuesday 24 January 17 23:49 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a relative who is listed on birth registrations as a clockmaker/jeweller who lived in the Waterford, Lismore, Cappoquin area of ireland in the 1860 to 1910's.

I have tried searching for lists etc., with no success as yet.
I would like to know if this trade at the time required an apprenticeship and if so where those documents may have been recorded.

Any further information to lead me in the right direction to perhaps track this relative would be appreciated.

The name I'm looking for is Patrick Hendrick and all of the differing spellings involved - other possibilities are:  Hanrick, Henrick, Handricks, Hendricks, Hendericks etc.

Is it just his working life you are looking for?

There might be something about how a person became a clockmaker in this

Thanks for the census links - I have those already.

I also had a look at the other link earlier this morning - no luck in it either.

This man was married at least twice & I'm trying to find out more about his birth & or where he came from prior to his first marriage in 1864 (This is on the assumption he wasn't married prior to this as his second marriage was in the 1890's.)

His father on his marriage documentation is John.

I have very few leads (if any) as to where he lived prior to his marriage.

Do you have the details of his first marriage?
He says he is from Wexford on the Census and on his marriage to Alice his father John is a Mill Wirght.
Finding John's death might help.
I don't know if a Mill Wirght moved around for work but could there be a John Hendrick living near a mill in Griffiths Valuation.

Nothing more substantial to merit mentioning the following, other than the baptism name, county and year, so just to note until it can be ruled in or out, it is for a Patrick Hendrick baptised on 7 October 1843 in Enniscorthy RC parish, parents John Hendrick and Catherine Grannell, sponsors Denis and Anty Breen? (left page, 6th entry down):

Lots of other children baptised for this couple, no further clues in those records.
