David Andrew TODD
« on: Wednesday 25 January 17 00:56 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Your help is required in helping to locate David Andrew [known as Dait] TODD, or his family.
David Andrew was born 12 May 1906, Glynn, Antrim, Northern Ireland, U.K.

He was a Merchant Seaman who arrived in America around the 1930's, married to Helen?, possibly a Mexican, and they had a daughter
(*).

The family lived in New Orleans, David Andrew could have died in May 1981, in the St. Bernard Parish of New Orleans.

Thank you,

Brian

There's a passenger list for him from 1947 that says on the 2nd page that he had been in the US from 1930-1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was going to wife Helen in New Orleans.  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KXHH-TX3  (the 2nd page is actually before this page)

The birth date on the Social Security Death Index with the 1981 death date is close, but slightly off from what you have - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JLBN-L3V  His Social Security number was obtained in Washington state before 1951.

David Andrew Todd & Helen divorced 12 Jun. 1975 in Pinellas Co., Florida.  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VKWB-L9C

I can see a snippet of the obituary for David A. Todd who died May 1981 in the New Orleans Times-Picayune.  It seems to be available on a subscription site or pay-per-view - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jcd/  or http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=HA-TP&p_theme=histpaper&p_action=keyword  It seems to show his wife as Helen Thiel Todd, and there seem to be children mentioned, but I can't read all the names.  Do you know if the daughter is still living?  If so, we will need to remove her name.

There is a marriage record for Helen E. Thiel and David (although it's mistranscribed as Daniel) Todd in Seattle, Washington on 28 Jun. 1943.

Hello keyboard86 and shellyesq,
Thank you both for the information provided, so very interesting. I am not sure if the daughter is still alive, but think it unlikely
I did try and access the Times Picayune archive, but the payment was in dollars, so did not like to give my card details.
It would be interesting to know the names of any children, as it could have led to an exchange of family history.
David Andrew Todd was one of 12 children of James and Sarah Jane Todd, from a village called Glynn, Antrim, Northern Ireland. His father was a Master Mariner, and other members of the family were also mariners.
Regards,
Brian

I think I can see enough of the obit to figure out the first two sons' names, so I will PM you.

David Andrew Todd is on a 9 Dec. 1948 list of naturalization petitions recommended to be granted in the US District Court of Eastern Louisiana.

Some New Orleans city directories from the 1950's have David & Helen there.

I found something else that may connect with the name that you thought was their daughter.  I'll PM you again.

The information provided has proved this to be the right David Andrew Todd. The name of his mother Sarah Todd, Glynn village, Antrim form his arrival at San Francisco in 1947, his wife Helen living in New Orleans, same document.
The obituary information with his wife's maiden name [Theil] has led to a search on familysearch for her family in Pennsylvania.
There is one family, father Martin born 1883 Austria, mother Elsie born 1880 Pennsylvania, Helen E. born 1909. They are living at 1215 Rush Street, Philadelphia, PA.
David Todd had lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1930 to Jan 1947.
One of the sons of David and Helen Todd was named Martin, so this could be the right family.
Can anyone find a connection between the two families.
Many thanks,
Brian
