Born Dec 1914 in Kilarny Co Kerry
She grew up in a children's home in Windsor Surrey..her father was in the army.

Mc Grath I'm looking for Margaret Mc Grath born 1914 father Edward....
No mother details are known as she never had a birth certificate.

Do you know her father's occupation? do you have a more exact location than Co. Kerry?

Only 2 Edward McGraths in Co. Kerry in 1911 census- neither married & one quite elderly:

Do you mean Killarney?

Hello and welcome

She might have been registered in her mother's name. Do you have her birthday?

Irish genealogy has Margarets born 1914 - not with the name of McGrath though.

There is an Edward McGrath soldier in English 1911 census but we aren't allowed to post detailed information.

I wonder why or how she was brought to Surrey? Did she have papers from the home with his details?

Regards
Heywood

Thank you we know very little.
Father was a solider Edward Mc Grath...we believe they followed him to surrey...her mothers died when she was eight and she grew up in a catholic children's home in Windsor...

Her. DOB 12th Dec 1914 ...but we have no birth cert she wa never able to find one so this many be wrong as often children born before parents wed find their DOB is wrong...so that could the case.

Killarney ...is where she believed she was born....as she has now died we have little to go on

Thank you

Link to topic on Surrey board- moved to Berkshire board-

It's possible that her father was a soldier called Edward McGrath... or not. It's not uncommon for illegitimate children to make up or embellish father's details when getting married.

If she was put into a children's home in Windsor when she was 8 years old (c1922/3)- have you looked for possible deaths for her mother in that area?
Nothing likely in Berkshire. Closest I could find for that period under Surrey is this one- but it's possible she was transferred to Windsor from outside the area and the surname is too common in the area to assume this could be Margaret's mother

If she was a Catholic have you contacted the church where she married?
They would have required proof of her baptism, or letter of freedom from previous parishes
to marry if they had a concern she wasn't from the area

Thank you all you have given me lots to start with ...sadly we didn't ask enough while she was alive.
Later years she had alzihimers so was too late then. For years she tried to find her birth cert...she traces her Dad but found he had died .
there is no more we know....we have found the marriage record for Margreat but not the church details.15th July 1939 St Pancras...is all the record says...she's listed as Peggy McGrath when she married .

Her Civil Marriage record should state the place of marriage
If it was a registry office then there would be no church record
If it was a Catholic Church you would have to contact the church for their own record
It is this that could give more information

Have you looked for Edward McGrath's military records?
Do you have his Date & Place of Birth?
These records may provide clues by stating if he married and/or where; where he was stationed, etc.
