You maybe have this, but for others reading, the marriage of Mary Griffiths to John Jordan in 1898:

Thank you so much. This will give me a great deal to be going on with and follow through.
These finer details often elude me.

This has probably been mentioned before but just in case you haven't seen it-

1862- Married on the 25th of November, at St. Mary's Cathedral [Sydney], by the Rev. F. Dwyer, John McGuinness, storekeeper, of Wollongong, fourth son of Stephen McGuinness, native of King's Country, Ireland, to MISS SARAH GRIFFITHS, third daughter of MR. WILLIAM GRIFFITHS, native of Donegal, Ireland (Sydney Morning Herald)

So, Sarah must have known the names of her parents and the fact that they are not recorded in Australia is likely just an omission.

I have had a look at the Probate. It is as follows Griffith William [191] 29 March Probate of the will of William Griffith late of Falcarragh County Donegal esquire who did 30 January 1911 granted at Dublin to The Reverend John Boyle P P Effects £580 12s4d.
I wonder why William didn't have one of his children as executor.

National Archives in Dublin should have the 1911 will itself which may give you a bit more information than the probate abstract. There is likely to be a fee for getting a copy from them.

Hi aghadowey
Yes, I have bother her marriage and death certs. For Edward(her son) to have listed her parents on her death cert leads me to believe that she did know her parents names. The thing that leads me to thin that she had a connection to William is the mention of Carrowcannon House in her obituary. so it must have been talked about in her family.
But everything I have read in the last couple of years has lead me to believe that she didn't actually ever live there. She was well and truly in Australia and married to John McGuinness by the time William purchased Carrowcannon House.
For me this begs the question as Elwyn raised earlier. Was she not really a Griffith at all?
Given that I have searched for a birth record for her and I have been unable to locate one.
Her shipping register says she is 20 and a nursemaid that she was born in Londonderry, that she arrived on the Caribou in 1859 as part of the Donegal Relief Fund and that her parents were William and Mary. She was also able to read.
I like to dot my i's and cross my t's and as far as I am able to determine the Carrowcannon House reference doesn't add up. These suspicions are what lead me down this path originally.

Hi Elwyn
I was thinking that i would have to go down the path of acquiring the will.
I have just been looking at the ellis Island records and there is a Rose Griffith who arrived in the States in 1911 from Donegal and she appears to be about the right age. I will now explore this avenue somewhat further.
Thanks Wren

It may be that Sarah's connection to Carrowcannon House was assumed by her family in Australia.

If, for example, she corresponded with William Griffith of Carrowcannon House they could have assumed (or she lead them to believe) that's where she had lived in Ireland (especially if she said William was her brother, cousin, etc.).

You could be right. Unfortunately there is nothing remaining, no letters etc as the family was living in very subsistence conditions and as far as I am able to determine they lived in nothing more than an old timber shack out in the bush and were extremely poor. My dad did show me where the farm was, but there is no dwelling there now. So maybe there was some assumption there.
Whatever the case she was a food hearted woman as she helped raise her grandchildren following her daughters death.
Thank you for all of your help and suggestions. I am following all of them up.
Regards
Wren
