Oh dear. Living with another Mary (Ann)?
Thanks. I'll investigate further.

If he is 10 months old in 1871 he cannot be born June qtr 1869?

I agree but it's the closest I can find on the FreeBMD index. **** I now find a birth for Arthur Frederick Slater in June 1871 in Chorlton; vol 8c page 655. It may have been registered late. ****

Going back to the 1871 census record in Leamington, Warwickshire - Frederick Owen Thomas 20, a student and also born in Newport, Pembs., is visiting Mary C Slator, his half sister, and her two boys Thomas H and Llewelyn J Slator aka Slater and even Stater.
So, it's definitely Mary Charlotta.

Hi and online tree suggests that Arthur F was not 10 months old ( as per census) and has this baptism:-

Arthur Frederic Slater born 3rd March 1871 Baptism 7th September 1873 Manchester Father Thomas Mother Mary Ann

That's probably my tree on Anc*****. I have added most of the info we've discovered to see if i can make it fit.

I don't yet see Thomas, Mary Ann and Arthur F together in 1881. I wonder if they ventured abroad?

Thanks Geoff.
I wonder if the Henry Slator, 42 in the 1881 census in Lambeth (above) was also a son of James and Mary? It says he was born in Rippingale.
