murtagh armagh county

Hi all, Im looking for information on a John murtagh and Rose murtagh(madden name murphy) they married in 1856 in armagh and then traveled to america where their last name was changed to murta. Wanting to find out their parents names and if they had other siblings that stayed in Ireland.

Her Godparents are Chas. Murphy and Susan Murtagh so that may help you.

Others are James Murta 13 September 1857 and John Murtagh 13 October 1861

Last names weren't "changed". They were spelled by the person who could write and as it sounded.  Likely that John and Rose were illiterate and so the baptismal records are spelled as the priest would write it, and records in the US were spelled as the authorities there would write it and as it sounded to them.
