Jane Ann McCracken
« on: Thursday 26 January 17 16:05 GMT (UK) »
Please help - I'm stuck! Jane Ann Cochrane was born 25th Dec 1870 in Kirkpatrick Fleming, Dumfriesshire. She married Andrew McCracken in 1892 in Carlisle and was living with her husband (aged 39 & a Police Constable) and her children in Maryport, Broughton Moor in 1911. Andrew died in 1939 and his death was registered in Jul/Aug/Sep in Cockermouth, Cumberland. I can find no trace of Jane's death or re-marriage either in Cumberland or Dumfriesshire and I can't find her on the 1939 Register. Any ideas gratefully received!

Who reported Andrews death?  If it wasn't Jane - is Andrew shown as a widower?

Hello Carole - thanks for replying. I don't have the death cert yet, unfortunately. I think I will have to get it. I wondered whether anyone had any brilliant ideas!

There is a newspaper article about the death of Andrew McCracken, at the time of his death he was living at 11 Gavel Street, Maryport, Cumberland.

See if you can find that address on the 1939.  :)

Wonder if Jane Ann decided to call herself something slightly different as there is this death, which could be worth considering -

Anne H McCracken
Birth Date - abt 1871
Date of Registration - Jun 1963
Age at Death - 92

Inferred County - Cumberland

JJ, Geoff and Carole

I think you could be right - I have seen this on the 1939 Register. Now I'm trying to find her again on Scotland's People but their website is really playing up. It logs me out every few seconds and I don't think the search facility is working properly  :( I wonder why the marriage was in the name of Jane Ann Cochrane and she is then calling herself Ann Hamilton (McCracken)? I wish I could find some connection!
