Friary is in the parish of Loughguile

There may be more to find there.

Hi Aghadowey, I would say it is the same family. I see one of the witnesses for Elizabeth and Daniel's marriage is Sarah Dillon. Thank you for that, great info! :)

Ashnz,

If you are a male line Dillon descendant have you considered taking a Y-DNA test to see if you can find any Dillon matches? If the Dillons are not your paternal line you could try asking a Dillon relative to take the test.
Dillon (Manchester, originally Ireland)
Duggan (Manchester, originally Ireland)
Marley (Manchester, originally Ireland)
Hogan (Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland)
Reekie (Fife)
Elston (Brecon, Birmingham, Dorset, Devon)
Pearsall (Birmingham)
Kinninmonth (Fife)
Kinnaird (Fife)

You would be able to take an autosomal test but unfortunately would not be able to take a Y-DNA test. Y-DNA is only passed down from father to son on the male line, if you were interested you could ask if a male Dillon cousin would test as a proxy for you though.

Autosomal testing basically looks at all of your DNA with the exception of the Y chromosome and the mitochondrial DNA. Autosomal DNA can help find genetic relatives on all branches of your tree going back around 5 generations. Y-DNA only finds relatives on your direct male line but can find matches going back much further to when surnames first came into use and back even further if more advanced Y-DNA testing is done.

The main DNA testing companies are "23andMe" "AncestryDNA" and "Family Tree DNA" (FTDNA). 23andMe and AncestryDNA only offer autosomal testing whereas FTDNA provide both Y-DNA and autosomal testing (https://www.familytreedna.com).

These links might help to explain it all a bit better:

http://ggi2013.blogspot.co.uk/p/which-dna-test-is-best-for-me.html

I've tested my Y-DNA pretty extensively with FTDNA and have done autosomal testing so feel free to give me a message if you have any other questions about DNA testing.
