Trust in Leicester 1840
« on: Saturday 28 January 17 11:32 GMT (UK) »
Thanks to the new parish records I have found the will for my Great Great Grandfather, who died in Leicester in 1840.  This surprised me as he was a coal higgler/merchant, but according to his will he left real estate/property in Trust, with the income to be used by his widow and for the advancement of his children, until her death.  She died in 1865.  Is there any place where I could look to find out more about this Trust?  The value of his personal property in 1840 was "not above £300"  Does this mean it was between £250 and £300?

Thanks in advance.

I would assume it means it was any amount up to £299.99 (in decimal currency)

Probably not, unless the solicitors’ papers happen to have been deposited at an archive.

Valuations relate to the tax-bands for any legacy duty payable. If I remember correctly, it was between £200 and £300 (but I can't quote a reference to support that).
