Trying to find John Leach from Brimpton
« on: Saturday 28 January 17 13:12 GMT (UK) »
I have his marriage record - 16 Jan 1768 in Midgham, Berks to Phoebe Marshall. It says his residence is Brimpton.
I've had a look on the IGI but can't find him in Brimpton. He was probably born about 1744.
Any help in finding him would be much appreciated
Thanks

There is a baptism for a John Louch on 11 Feb 1733, son of John and Elizabeth in Bradfield, which is only about 8 miles from Brimpton.

Have you found your John's burial, and does it give his age at death? This might help to narrow down his dob.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

I found his burial date as Aug 1797 in Brimpton. It was from the Berkshire Burial Index but unfortunately there is no age

That's a shame. However, I see that Phoebe was buried in Brimpton on 4 Mar 1831 aged 87 giving her dob approx 1744 so perhaps it might fit that John was a few years older.

I could only find 2 children of theirs baptised in Brimpton (Charles and Elizabeth [? after his mother?]) - and then not until well into the 1770s. Then I noticed it looks as if they moved about a bit:  they had John (1770) and William (1772) in Rickmansworth, Herts ; Maria in Midgham in 1773; James in Thatcham in 1775.
