65th regiment look up at Kew request
« on: Sunday 29 January 17 02:47 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if there is anyone who is going to the British National Archives in Kew that might be able to help. I am in New Zealand and unlikely to get to the UK in the foreseeable future.
I am trying to find out about Private Thomas Brooks, of the 65th Regiment of Foot, regimental number 2824. He came to New Zealand on the True Briton with the regiment. It arrived in NZ in December 1852. I do not know how long he was in the army before this. His wife was from Cork, but I do not know if he was. I am wondering if someone who is going to Kew might be able to spare some time and look for his muster roll? The reference for 1851/1852 is WO 12/7421 but of course he may have enrolled before then. From his death certificate, he was born around 1823. Many thanks in advance.
