Lydia Margaret SELLECK (nee HOOPER)
« on: Sunday 29 January 17 10:10 GMT (UK) »
Is someone able to clarify a place named on a death certificate please?
My ggg-grandmother Lydia Selleck (nee Hooper) b. 14 Sep 1813 - St Sidwell, Exeter.
She died 20 Feb 1839
On her death certificate her place of death was named as Magdelen St. Holy Trinity. St Sidwell, Exeter
Would Magdalen St be her residence, place of burial or is it a Poor House?
I am travelling to UK in a coupe of months and would like to visit a few areas relating to my ancestors. Any help re-this would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Jenny

Magdalen Street was in the parish of Holy Trinity, Exeter. There was originally a leprosy hospital there http://www.exetermemories.co.uk/em/_organisations/magdalen.php which eventually was converted to housing for the poor and destitute. However there was also 'regular' housing along the street so she equally could have been living in one of those. St Sidwell's is another parish to the north - about 3/4 mile away.

Hi Jen
As I have Hooper and Selleck in family I looked into your Lydia but could not find connection.

Not sure  that Lydia dying in 1839 in yours? she appears to have been 56 when she died and could not have been born in 1813.

Found a Lydia Margaret Hooper bap Paignton 18 Oct 1813 to William and Agnes Hooper, yeoman and
marriage of Lidia Hooper to John Selleck at Colaton Raliegh 13 Oct 1831.
