Thomas Evans of Cerrigydrudion
« on: Sunday 29 January 17 15:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I put a question on this forum the other day and it was answered very quickly - amazing!

I am still stuck with this family though, so here goes:

Mary Evans was born 23rd July 1854 in Cerrigydrudion daughter of Thomas Evans and Margret (Margaret) ???

Gadget kindly confirmed that Mary married William Thompson on 27th March 1882 in Llanycil and that her father was Thomas Evans, a shoemaker.

I believe that I have found Thomas Evans and his wife Margaret on the 1871 Census in Brynpatre, Moelfrey, Corwen with Thomas born abt 1819 in Cerrigydrudion and Margaret born abt 1834 in Llanfawr?? Thomas was a Shoemaker.

I cannot find Thomas and Margaret anywhere else, do not know Margaret's maiden name or where or when they married. Was Mary an only child?

I have found two possible deaths for Thomas Evans in Corwen:
i) 1877 Qtr 2 Year of Birth 1817 Vol 11b Page 0300

ii) 1878 Qtr 2 Year of Birth 1818 Vol 11b Page 0298

I may be completely wrong with the above but am getting nowhere at the moment and would be grateful for some help.  :)

Thanks

Catherine

If you are certain of Mary's date of birth then using the new gro search, which shows mothers maiden names then this looks a possible

Mary Evans September quarter 1854 Corwen district mothers maiden name Jones

You did ask was she an only child,  the bad news is there were 13 female Evans jones births in Corwen district 1850-1854, and 10 males.

I did spot a Thomas in 1853, but there are an awful lot to choose from :)

Ha ha! Thanks Mike - Evans and Jones in Wales - not really very difficult!! Thank you for trying but, more importantly, thanks for the hint about the GRO search - it has already helped me with another unrelated query! Catherine

Hi

There is an interesting baptism in 1819

Cerrigydrudion
21 Nov 1819 Thomas EVANS, son of Thomas and Elinor

Thomas, the father, was a cordwainer - i.e. shoemaker
