Birth Record John Carroll
« on: Monday 30 January 17 04:32 GMT (UK) »
John Carroll - my grandfather (my mothers side)

I'm trying to get a valid birth record - here is what I have to date:

Military prior to 1895 - 1901 & 1911 census have him as military pensioner

Married Annie Murphy Jan 22, 1895 noted as widower/soldier (5 children) Record of death was May 27, 1915

Prior marriage to Emily E. Timson  (no date) 1 Child Emily Elisabeth June 19, 1884 Record indicates he was Corporal 84th Regiment. Residing at Barrackton #117 at that time No other record of other children may have died in child birth? No marriage record

Baptismal record located for John Carroll 1 Aug. 1847 St Peter & Paul, Cork

This conflicts with British army record s that state Service # 1470 Regiment York and Lancaster Regiment - 65th & 84th Queens (Laois) which as a birth of 1846.

Any help & guidance appreciated -Thank you.

Hello and welcome  :)

Just a couple of points.

The censuses show him born Queens County (Laois) not Cork.
The numbers of children in 1911 are, or should be, born to the woman.

The marriage certificate wouldn't show numbers of children, would it?

What was the name of his father on his marriage certificate and the baptismal record you found?

Here is the marriage to Emily Timson

Lancashire Online Parish Clerks

Emily Elizabeth Timson, 21yrs Housekeeper Spinster, 12 Irwell View Father James Timson, deceased a Painter.

Witnesses Henry Saunders and Agnes Carroll.

The 1895 marriage to Annie Murphy shows his father as John Carroll deceased, labourer  :-\

1861 2922/101/27

Shows Barnard (Bernard) and Bridget Carroll with several children including John, b Cape of Good Hope and Agnes.

I wonder if the two John Carrolls are different people?

There is a Chelsea Pensioners record which I can't access but has John Carroll born abt 1848 born Cape of Good Hope regimental number 2201
