Hi Folks,
I am a member of the team which Brian mentioned who tend the War Graves at Bramley Baptist. I have done quite a bit of research into Phyllis Austin but like Josephine I have not been able to find cause of death as yet.
I took a photo of the grave memorial last week but the file is too large to attach here. If you would like a copy of this photo PM me with your email address and I'll forward it to you.

Regards, Ian

Hello Ian

My Grandfather RAFVR with a Bomber Command Squadron is "Commemorated" on a CWGC Headstone in Fawley All Saints, Hants, "killed in Action" over the defences at Southampton whilst returning from Operations to the Oil Tanks at Ambes, on the Gironde, cause of death on the Death Certificate "Due to War Operations".

Classed as a "Friendly" balloon barrage collision and cut off 15 feet of wing.

So I would like to thank you and all of your colleagues, who mow the grass and tend the War Graves and Memorials, here and abroad and I'm sure others on here, all feel the same.

Well done and Thank you.

Kind Regards Mark and Rootschat

Working in the background, the team are working to find out where/how Phyllis met here end?
[Even people who lived in the same street in Bramley at that time have been approached]
Bye for now Brian
Do you have a death certificate for Phyllis? [Team thinking about purchasing to assist the search!]
Certainly set members thinking about her life!

Hello Josephine and All

Death Certificate may not be required, got a document.

There had been an oubreak of diphtheria on the Station and Phyllis Austin 467 Squadron (RAAF) died after contracting it, dying in Leeds Isolation Hospital.

The No. 467 (RAAF) ORB is under RAF Bottesford and so does the book RAF Squadrons by Wing Commander C G Jefford, RAF (Ret'd), say Bottesford for April 1943.

See 8th & 9th April 1943 (pages 3 /16 & 4 /17).

Images from Australia.

Although they say "Secret", the Form 540 are on "Open" access after 30 Years.

Regards Mark

Thanks for the above info Mark! :)
That to me confirms that Phyllis died in Leeds after suffering from diphtheria, I will contact the leader of the memorial group and they will put a note into the records.

Yes, thanks Mark for your efforts. Answered the question for us in Bramley and Josie.

If you would like to see what we do in the Baptist churchyard check out the Bramley War Memorial website: www.bramleywarmemorial.com our details and video's are on there.
