Findmypast alert blocks me trying to search
« on: Tuesday 31 January 17 18:05 GMT (UK) »
I have just tried doing a search on Findmypast. I know what I am doing there and have been a user for many years.

However today I am blocked from doing any BMD search because of a silly thing that comes up which takes me down to the infant level and yields me no useful info.

Even clicking on the “Advanced Search” just takes me to the page I would normally see but the damn pop-up rears its ugly head again.

Does anyone know how to get round this latest “improvement” in their service?

I should add that a complaint to their Customer Service address elicited a suggestion to go to a link about “getting-started” with FindMyPast.

Strange, I am not getting pop ups.  Is this part of their new 'search' for beginners  :-\

I've been searching BMD's on FindMyPast for the past hour, and I see no pop-ups.
Where do you find the 'advanced search'. I didn't know there was one  :-\

Where exactly on the page does the pop-up appear?

Not a lot of help, but it's been fine for me as well. Have you tried logging out and back in again?

Well I must have won the lucky prize!

I have tried it 3 times in the last ten minutes and am still experiencing the problem.

I don't have a sub but can log in & search.

I didn't get any pop-ups.

Could it be the search engine you use?

I use Google Chrome.

Annie, “Could it be the search engine you use?”

I suppose anything is possible but that is a bit unlikely. I am using Firefox v51.0.1 which is the latest version. Firefox has not given me any problems with FindMyPast in the past.

Okay, was only a thought.

Maybe try logging off comp. altogether then restart?

I've had mysterious things going on before (once with RC) but after shutting down completely & restarting, all was fine.
