but it looks like Ann is with John Johnson in 1861 with son William Lee and daughter Ann Lee (who I think is Lyall in 1851???

Suz

A lot can happen in 10 years  ;)

I think Thomas Lyall (Lyle) is with Elizabeth in 1861 who may be called Bell according to the children's surnames.

it looks like this could be Ann in 1871
Main St W Aukland
John Johnson Head M 46 lab Darlington
Ann wife 55 Wolsingham
RG10 49 35 15

Maybe Ann didn't marry John Johnson but possibly that is where father's name of John for Isabella came from?

Have just noticed this thread. Isabella is the the daughter of Anne Lee, 5th child of John and Isabella Lee, who married in Wolsingham in 1807. Anne was born in Wolsingham in  1816. John was working as a lead miner and the family was living at Wrights House. Yes, she eventually married John Johnson and they seemed to end up looking after her father as he left them everything (not much!) in his will.

It looks like John Johnson and Ann Lee marriage is Sept.1854 Auckland (2 of the 4 names on the page).

Thanks Geordie Mag and Annette. That's great news for Carol  :)

Looking at the will index, John Lee left a tidy sum for the time. John Johnson was the executor.  Are you related Geordie Mag and have you seen the will?

John and Isabella are my g.g.g.grandparents through Ann's younger brother Thomas. I have a copy of the will, made 1864 and proved 1866 for John Johnson, executor. There is a note attached that effects were under £200. The property involved would be more significant I imagine. He bequeathed to "my daughter Ann, wife of John Johnson of New  Shildon, all my real estate, if any, and any personal estate for her own personal use" and devised to John Johnson all estates vested to him as trustee or mortgagee. A sad note at the end said that the will had been read to him and fully explained, and  that "he seemed perfectly to understand the same".  He signed with a x.
