Robert Miller b. 1763
« on: Wednesday 01 February 17 21:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone

Would anyone have information on a Robert Miller born 1763, presumably in Durham?

His son Henry Marsden Miller b. 1798/99 Newcastle/Durham; who became a Freedman of the City of London in 1855;  gave his father's occupation as "Hairdresser".

Robert's death is recorded as 18th July 1829 in Darlington, Durham.

Any information at all would be really appreciated.

Thank you.  Yes, this is a real possibility as Henry Marsden Miller (his son) b. 1798/99 said he was born Gateshead or Newcastle.

I haven't been able to find a marriage for Robert.  If you can help would be really appreciated.

So far I can't see a marriage for Robert.

Are you sure that you have the correct death for Robert, only the Durham University Library Special Collections Catalogue has an entry for a Will of a Robert Miller who died 1829 in Darlington and they give his occupation as Clerk.

Yes, you are right.  I went to my local genealogy group today and found out that  Robert Miller dod 1829 was a Reverend with the Wesleyans.  It seems he made a Will in 1826.  I would like to get that and read through it.  I guess the Wesleyans would have been non-conformists at this date?

It may not be the right Robert Miller but the dates are perfect so would like to continue at least until I can cancel it out.  I wonder if the Wesleyans had their own parish record books?

You can read his will online on the North East Inheritance Database. This has the pre 1858 wills from Durham Diocese.

If I give you the Will's reference can you look it up?  I found the website but didn't know quite how to upload it all.
DPRI/1/1829/M15  2 Nov. 1829

DPRI/1/1829/M15/1-2  21 Nov. 1826 will

There is another reference which says Registered copy: DPRI/2/40 p373-375

Which one of those I am not too sure.

Many thanks,  Gail

Simply click on the blue underlined reference number and a new window opens with the will (it is a link to the wills on Familysearch). Click on the will rather than the registered copy as this gives the original with signatures etc.
