Ferndale Cemetry
« on: Thursday 02 February 17 16:44 GMT (UK) »
Hoping someone may be able to assist me. My mother Eirwen Davies daughter of Howell and Margaret Davies was born in Blaenllechau on 1903. To the best of my knowledge their were 4 siblings But according to the 1911 census there was 8 children. So 3 are missing have located one buried in Neath area just after the couple married there. Is their any way that I can establish if the other two might be buried in Ferndale cemetery, that is where Howell and Margaret are buried. Believe Howell might have been transcribed as Howard. Any ideas would be welcome. Regards Eirwen

Hi Eirwen

Do you know what Margaret's maiden name was please?

If it's not too 'common' (I have that problem!) you can search the new GRO Index with both parents surnames for births.

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/menu.asp

You have to register to use the site, but it is free.

Alternatively, if you post the name we can have a look for you?

Regards
Giggsy

Have a feeling the name might be Thomas - can't find the child Sarah Edith from the 1901 census but the there is a birth for the child May (1895 Gower) and the mothers name is Thomas.  If it is its not going to be easy.

I know what you mean Ray. My grandfather was one of 15 children from a Lewis/Davies couple. They were living in Maerdy in the Rhonda and there are LOADS of possibles. My Mum remembered about 8 of them, but I can't get any more!

If it's any help, May Davies is described in a newspaper cutting as third daughter of Mr and Mrs Davies of 13 Brynteg terrace, Ferndale, when she marries in 1917. her nieces Beatrice Morgan and I Davies were bridesmaids

May Davies married Zachariah Bryant. I lived with them in 93 Duffryn Strret Ferndale, before my parents took me to England. May I ask what newspaper did you get the information from. Regards Eirwen

this is the cutting - however the spouse is Lewis Enoch

http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3580778/3580781/21/

the best fitting Zachariah Bryant - Davies marriage I can find is in 1912, Pontypridd (spelled Zackariah). however he marries Mary A Davies, not May. I note there is a Bryant in attendance at the 1917 marriage
