Gull Family of Essex
« on: Friday 03 February 17 12:37 GMT (UK) »
My GG Uncle was Sir William Withey Gull of whom much is written. His sister Elizabeth Mary Ann Gull was my GG Grandmother who was married to Joseph Haddon Johnson.Luckily we know a lot about her. I am searching for any information on the siblings of the above as sadly nothing much is known about them. The siblings are:
Matilda Sarah Gull 1812 to 1898 Possible married to a Joseph Fry.
Thomas Gull 1809 to 1838
Maria Gull 1809 to 1873
John Gull 1804 to 1888 ( who I believe was married to Sarah Hempson)
Mary Gull 1815 . Could have been married to a John Bantock.
I would be so grateful for any information on these family members I am looking for.
Thank you!

Hello
I've had a quick look.
Matilda Sarah gull married 21.11.1848 at St Thomas Southwark a Joseph Fry widower merchant from St Giles Camberwell son of William a Gentleman. Her father is named as John a mariner and one of the witnesses is Susan Gull presumably wife of St William Withey Gull.
The other is ? Arthur.
Her husband was a dye manufactuer who was born in London 1799 and died 17.4.1872.His probate is claimed by his widow for under £25000.
They had two children Joseph Frederick fry  bapt 16.10.1850 at St Giles Camberwell buried Norwood Cemetery 16.5.1913 of 11 Ferndale Tunbridge Wells.
His sister Sarah Elizabeth is also buried there 11.6.1870 ,bapt 15.9.1854 at St Giles once more.
Matilda and Joseph seem to have been living at Grove Hill road Camberwell and she died there 27.9.1898.Her Will leaves £62356 16 7d  .Exec Sir William Cameron Gull baronet,Caroline Cameron Dyke Acland wife of Theodore.Frederick William Foster gent and Anna Finch spinster.

Sister Mary Ann was living with her from 1861,(1851 with brother William) and she was buried 6.1.1900 at Norwood age 85 from Grove Hill Road,Camberwell.

John's second marriage at Westminster 14.6.1849
John widower merchant Thorpe le Soken Essex father John mariner
Emma Wilson Cole spinster 52 Strutton Grounds Joseph Bruce Cole saddler
wit John Thomas Cole and  Louisa Mills

They are together on the censuses in Ipswich and John is described as a barge owenr. He has a son Paul born 1837 from his first marriage.

I would do more but I've run out of time.
Sorry

Mary Ann Gull probate was 15 February 1900 executors were Sir William Cameron Gull and Caroline Cameron Dyke Acland wife of Theodore Dyke Acland
Mary Ann must have been living with Matilda and Joseph as her place of residence re probate is Beaumont, Grove Hill Road, Camberwell Surrey.

Added census for 1881 and 1891 confirms she was living with Matilda Fry

Mary Ann never married.
