Nookie,

thanks so much.  I didn't realize he was there as well.  I'll check out the website again.  He was definitely older than his sister Ethel then as her DOB was 1922.  If he was 1920, then Frederick and Emily came between 1919 and 1920, since I have their marriage and they were married in England in 1919.

Now, I have found Emily on UK Outbound passengers, with her sister Ethel (who her daughter is obviously named for) in 1911. They obviously went back to England at some point.  I have Frederick on a passenger ship back to the UK in 1916.  Haven't found Emily yet.  Can't find them going back to S. Africa.  Frederick was in the S. African military (listed on his marriage certificate).  Do you suppose they were sent back on military ships and that's why I can't find them on ship manifests?  It would obviously have been after their wedding (March 1919) and Norman's birth in 1920ish.

Norman was born in Durban - about 1920. Ethel was also born in Durban in 1922.  I would think that they would have come out in 1917/1918 bearing in mind that they probably would have settled down before starting a family.

Will see if I can pick up anything regarding his military career.

It looks like you will have to contact the Documentation Centre of the South African Defence Force for details of his military career.  I have sent you a pm with the email address.
