Research in Fiji and Greece
« on: Saturday 04 February 17 05:19 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone had any experience with research in these countries. I am trying to find out about my son in law's Greek ancestors, we have his 3rd great grandfather who was born 12 Jan 1822, Ithica, Ionian Islands, Greece. Wish to find parents and other family. He has joined the British Navy, by age 13 in 1845 he got his Seaman's Certificate. He actually joined at age 7. How?

My grandmothers sister married a Leopold Emanuel Benjamin in Fiji 6 Feb 1893. How can I find out more about them and their family, especially whilst they were in Fiji.
Regards
Jan Moon

Previous post re the Greek seaman with image of his seaman's ticket http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=734987.msg5804980#msg5804980

He was ticketed at age 23, having served 7 years with the Royal Navy. First went to sea at age 7. I don't think it can be concluded from this that he joined the RN at age 7.
