It would appear Sarah died prior to 1879 as there is a second marriage for Robert:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9Q97-Y39P-158?mode=g&i=469&cc=1784216

She is on the 1871 census in Guelph:

I have a Sara (Sarah) Matilda Patterson who married Robert George Strachan 4 January 1867 Wellington, Guelph, Ontario.

Based on the image aghadowey posted, the marriage month would seem to be June and not January.

The OCFA website has a Sarah Strachan listed as buried at Woodland Memorial Park in Guelph but I haven't been able to find any transcriptions or pictures of the grave marker. You could try contacting the cemetery as they do look-ups for free:

Many thanks for all details. I think the second marriage and the 1871 census  has answered my questioning.
