John George Le Boutillier Diamond
« on: Monday 06 February 17 10:57 GMT (UK) »
I have found two separate baptism records for John George Le Boutillier Diamond: one on 23 Jan 1851 and another on 28 Aug 1853. Both were done in Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Lancashire. I have been able to view (on Ancestry) a scan of an original 1853 register and I see that John's sister, Jane Amelia, was also baptised at the same time. Was this kind of double baptism common and does it tell us anything more than an ordinary single one. Is it significant that I can find no further records (either census, marriage, or death) for John.

Multiple Baptisms were common & you can't read anything significant into it.
If there's nothing on the census for John you would have to conclude that he died.

I have found John in the 1851 census at 11 months but not after that. He may of course have been at work in 1861 (he would have been 12) and just recorded as John, but I cannot locate him. Pity that I cannot find a death certificate.

Thanks for the info, Jim.

He is 11 weeks, not 11 months, old in the 1851 census ("weeks" is written in the adjacent column).

Her mmn was Dolbel. Can't see a marriage but she was born Jersey so may have married there.
I can't see a birth reg. for John either.

avm, Many thanks for that correction. I have looked at the census record again and am amazed that that had read Months instead of Weeks. Since the baptism took place on 23rd Jan (I have just found an original record for this too) I calculate John must have been born between 12  and 19 Jan 1851.
