My ancestor, Joseph Wyllie, married a woman with the surname France in 1824. Her first name has various versions: Sesilee (marriage cert), Cecilly, Sicilia, Sicillas, Cicilia, Secilia, Julia (changes with each birth record). Given that her grand-daughter was named Cecelia, I'm happy that that was her name. I've found 8 children, all born Kilwinning. A search of the IGI has her listed as Lesslie, with parents John and Eleasabeth, possibly from England.
Has anyone come across the surname of France, especially in Ayrshire?
