Brooks studio, Burnley
« on: Tuesday 07 February 17 10:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi. Can anyone tell me when Brooks photographers were listed as being at Coal Clough Lane, Burnley? I have another boys band photo that was taken there and would love to put a date to. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

F. Brooks photographer,  Coal Clough Lane is mentioned in the Burnley Express  Saturday 25 June 1927, and Saturday 19 February 1944, if this helps.

Fred Brooks father James started the Coal Clough Lane Studio around the turn of the 1900s. He had previously been on Accrington Road.   His father before him was also a photographer from around the 1870s.

I rather thought there had been a very similar query to this some time back here?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Thanks all. I have just this minute put a date to my picture. I have found info regarding the stamp box and symbols. I can at least say the postcard is from 1922.

The topic I'm thinking of was something like "Royale Studios, Coal Clough Lane, Burnley". If you have a peek at it it may help you?

Thanks Threlfallyorky. Found your post re Royal studios. You commented........The only ones I've managed to find in Coal Clough Lane - no "Royal", I'm afraid, are:
Barrett's Directories
1908       James Brooks "of Coal Clough Lane" (no number, and it apparently is quite a long road)
1911       James Brooks (as above) & Harry Stephens at 1a Coal Clough Lane
1914       Harry Burrell in Coal Clough Lane, and Fred Brooks again, Coal Clough Lane
1945 (yes) Alan Bolton, in Coal Clough Lane
1953       Hubert Hargreaves at 29 Coal Clough Lane
I'm sorry not to be able to help identify the Photographer you are searching for.       Is there no directory for the missing years? 1914-1945? Many thanks
