Any residents of Earls Barton, Northants. Please read.
« on: Wednesday 08 February 17 16:47 GMT (UK) »
If any member of this site, lives in, or close by Earls Barton, or passes by house numbers of 46 to 52 Northampton Road, Earls Barton.  Would it be possible to see if there are any markers or signs on these four houses, as to when they were built.

Number 46, looks like it was built c1850's, and the block of 3 attached, were built around the 1890's.

I lived in one of these 3 houses in the late 1970's to mid 1980's.  As far as I can recollect, the build was in 1893, but now I'm not so sure.

Apparently the Primary School master lived there in the 1970's, name unknown, and I would guess he left there in or around the mid to late, 1970's.

I have a friend who lives in the village and she will have a look next time she is down that way -she looks a bit of detective work.

These extracts show the site in 1885, 1900 and 1969.

Thanks very much.  So it seems I wasn't far off for the 3, but way off for right hand side property.

The problem I have, is pinning down who lived there(the 3 houses), in 1911 & 1939.  I had thought it was the Barker Shoes Family(possibly), given the fact that they had a larger detached home, in a similar style /age a bit further up the road.
I have no interest in the Barkers, but as these houses would have been the most Grand terraced houses in the road in the 1890's, and the most wonderful views, it would have needed a bit more cash to purchase.
What is interesting to note, is the single detached property in the 1900 map, in what is now West Way. So the rest of West Way was built after 1900, and this property became an end of terrace.

Hi
As promised (some time ago now) my friend has been able to have a good look at these houses but can find no obvious date on the walls she could see.

In the 1939 register, it appears it was a Richard Goodbody, Head Master of the Elementary School. in E.B.  Which fits in in with the house being owned by the council/education authority at the time I purchased it.

The houses were sat, in what was known as West View before it was numbered as Northampton Road.

Thanks everyone.
