Annie Bell Wannan born 1909
« on: Wednesday 08 February 17 21:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi there

I'm trying to find out what happened to Annie after she sailed from Glasgow on board the S.S. "Athenia" (Anchor-Donaldson Line) and arrived in Québec Province, Canada on 29 April 1929 - from 7 Robert Street, Newport [Fife]

Annie was born of 1 May 1909 Inverdovat in the Parish of Forgan, Fife, Scotland, the 9th of 10 children (5th daughter) of Robert Wannan (1869-1960) and Janet Marshall Bell (1871-1948)

Any help would be appreciated.

There is quite a comprehensive anc tree for the Wannan family but unfortunately nothing for Annie.
Have you located an obituary for Robert Wannan 1869–1960 - Born 3 July 1869 - Leuchars, Fife, Scotland - Passed away 24 March 1960 - Dundee, Angus, Scotland - May help unravel the mystery or even give a married name for Annie.
No BMD index in Canada which makes her more difficult to find - so obituaries might be your best option.

Hi Sandra

Nice to hear from you again and sorry for the response delay, but your replies came in after I'd retired for the night.

I forgot to mention in the original post that Annie and her sister had sailed together on the "Athenia" having found it on the Manifest.  I also have the Census detail from Illinois and death dates, etc., for William MacKay.

What I don't have is the married name and other detail for William and Janet's daughter, Muriel, so many thanks for that - even though it looks quite complex  :)

I've looked through several Wannan trees on Ancestry but, as you say, there's nothing more in them for Annie other than her name. I've got both her father and mother's death records - her mother died in Dundee on 22 August 1948 - so the next thing will be a visit to the Library in Dundee to browse the local paper for a death notice, etc.  Hopefully there's something there that will help.

Sandra

Hi again Sandra

Although slightly off my original thread, I tried Google for "Muriel J Ayres" and found a site www.locateancestors.com where her last residence is listed as Winter Springs, Seminole County, Florida, USA.  Age 78 years, her birth and death dates are as I have them - 11 July 1927 : 15 January 2006 - so now I have a place of death for her.

Or brother Andrew Wannan -  1900–1971
