William COOK of Wymondham
« on: Wednesday 08 February 17 23:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have my husband's 6 X G Grandfather William COOK born Wymondham circa 1705, baptised 3 March 1706 and married to Elizabeth GOULD in 1721. She died 1729 and William then married Mary WOOD(E) in 1731.

I am trying to find if William and Elizabeth had any children?
Also trying to find who William's parents were. There are two possibilities:
1]. William COOK (born Tharston c.1678 - died Wymondham 1737) and Elizabeth OSBOURNE.
2]. William COOK (born Tharston c.1666 - died Wymondham 1733) and Margaret TOWNSHEND

Would anyone know of these families? Any help will be really appreciated.

Kind regards,

Margaret

Hi  Yokel,

William was baptised 1706, but could have been born 2, 3 or four years before, that is why I wrote circa 1705.

Regards,

Margaret

Hi Amondg,

Thanks for the reply.

I have assumed (bad thing to do!) that he was baptised there as his parents (as far as I know) moved from Tharston to Wymondham where they (possibly) died. You gave thrown a lot of doubts about him now as you say he wasn't baptised in Wymondham. Looks as if I will have to start all over.

I think I have the answer to all your problems on William Cook because I am also descended fro him.  He had some quite illustrious descendants and his ancestry in Tharston  goes way back with lots of William Cooks.

Transcriptions by Norfolk Family History Society

William Cook buried Wymondham 11 November 1733 was William Cook JUNIOR
This is the one who married Elizabeth Gould of Morley 1721, then as a widower married Mary Woods 1731. The 2nd marriage states he is William Cook JUNIOR.

The William Cook infant who was buried 1734 is the son of William Cook JUNIOR

The 3rd William Cook buried 10 February 1737/8 is possibly William Senior but it does not state that.

This is the one who as a WIDOWER married Elizabeth Osborne 13 May 1703

Thanks amondg for the info.

You state that a William COOK infant who was buried 1734 is the son of William COOK Junior.

I have a William COOK, son of William COOK Junior born 1733 baptised 24 March 1733 (Norfolk FH Soc). He married Tabitha REYNOLDS on 24 March 1754 at St. Stephen, Norwich (Norfolk FH Soc).
Are you saying that William COOK born 1733 died and was buried 1734 is the one who married Tabitha? If so then the William who married Tabitha was a completely different William. Tabitha was my husbands 5 X G Grandmother, so who is his 5 X G Grandfather?

A very large spanner has been thrown in the works...
