Two John CLAYPOLEs - but whose is which?
« on: Friday 10 February 17 16:29 GMT (UK) »
I have two boys named John CLAYPOLE both born about 1825 in Great Easton. They both appear in the 1851 and 1861 censuses for the village

1. John Claypole married Hannah Morgan, Registered in Northampton 4th quarter 1846

2. John Claypole married Jane Smith, Registered in Uppingham 2nd quarter 1848

I haven't been able to track down baptism or marriage registers although there is a suggestion that John Smith (1) belongs to William Claypole and Elizabeth Shaw

I would be grateful for confirmation of the parentage of both

Many thanks - Alan

Baptisms are available through FindMyPast

In Great Easton:

there were TWO baptisms on the same day in Feb 1825 of children called John Clapole (no "y") -- one set of parents called William and Elizabeth, the other Henry and Hannah. William was a cordwainer, Henry a labourer.

I can't help with the marriages, sorry.

I have traced the family of Henry Claypole and Hannah Redhead now through the 1841 - 1861 censuses and they haven't registered a son by the name of John. However they do have Job born about 1825. Is that yet another of their sons? or is Job in reality this second John?

Cheers Alan

There is also a baptism in 1826 for a son belonging to Henry and Hannah - FindMyPast has transcribed this as John but to my eyes it looks like Job. This is definitely a different baptism from that of John s year earlier.

I can't see an early burial for either of the 2 children bapt John.
