Thank you Mabel - the missing link! So now I will have a good look at that Joseph and see if any orphan girls turn up. Maybe they are even harbouring Margaret under a mistranscription.

Thanks again Mabel, the age is bang on with Margaret Ellen Allen's birth. And it is looking as if Joseph Ernest Cox had a brother James Lawrence Cox who married a Mary Ellen who would be the Mary Ellen Cox you cite. So it is beginning to fit together nicely.

It looks as if there was consumption in the family. Their sister died young as well.

I think Mary Ellen is the widow of Joseph Ernest's younger brother James Lawrence Cox

1891 - in Newington

Alfred William Seccombe    67
Emma Seccombe    57
Joseph Ernest Cox    18 - lodger b Walworth, clerk
Jas Lawrence Cox    17 - lodger b Walworth, boot and shoe clicker
Mary Jane Annie Cox    20 - lodger b Walworth

RG12, 355, 40, 2

parents appear to be James Missing Cox, b Packenham Suffolk c1843 and Mary b Newport Essex c1839

Not sure if Winifred is the daughter of either of these two siblings, or someone else to whom the Cox surname has been appended

Totally agree with you Mabel - our last posts crossed.

Just saw your latest post - the two brothers were neighbours then.

Interestingly as I have been looking back up this Cox tree it looks as if it will head back to Cambridge so the two Cox lines may tie up as amondg suggested. But quite a way back.

Must trundle off to bed much as I am tempted to sit up and carry on as work tomorrow

Thanks again
Brie
