The Union, Northampton

Following up on my query about what had caused the deaths of four members of the Morgan family in Northampton in 1854, I discovered that the husband's parents had also moved from Buckinghamshire and were living in the next door but one house in Northampton in 1851.

I have traced these parents forward in the Parish Register of St Katherine's Church when Mary Morgan (75 years) was buried on August 2nd 1863 and Robert Morgan was buried on March 7th 1865. 

The address given for Robert was "The Union" - does this signify the Northampton Workhouse?

The Northampton Work House has for many years been St Edmund's Hospital in Wellingborough Road. This is currently derelict and the outbuildings are being demolished prior to the main building being renovated for other uses

Hi Sandy
I wonder what that means! Did he die in the Workhouse and his friends took him out to bury him or did his friends take him out of the Workhouse and he died elsewhere?

It means he died in the Workhouse Alan.

I guess his friends didn't want him buried in a Paupers Grave.
